Inside RCD Espanyol de Barcelona: Identity, Stadium and Rivalries

A practical introduction to the club behind the fixtures: what the colours mean, where home matches feel different and which dates carry extra weight.

Club identity

The Pericos' Place in Barcelona

Espanyol were founded in Barcelona in 1900 and their blue-and-white identity has survived several homes and name changes. Pericos is the familiar supporter nickname, while the club's own Barcelona Perica project stresses that Espanyol's history remains tied to the city rather than only to suburban Cornellà.

Home matchday

RCDE Stadium Restored a Permanent Home

RCDE Stadium opened in 2009 after Espanyol spent 12 years at Montjuïc. Located in Cornellà de Llobregat, it returned the club to a purpose-built home. Travelling fans should plan for the journey outside central Barcelona and use the entrance shown on their ticket.

Derbi Barceloní

Espanyol vs Barcelona

The Derbi Barceloní is Espanyol's defining local fixture. It is distinct from El Clásico: this rivalry is about two clubs from Barcelona and competing versions of the city's football identity. Espanyol's official archive traces league visits to Barcelona's home grounds back to 1929.
